Reader Request: Harry Potter Nails

Hey all,

If you've read the books or have been following the movies, I'm sure you will know that Harry Potter is premiering this week around the world.  In the US it's on the 15th.  I haven't really been keeping up with the movies, so I reread the ending of the seventh book (and got teary at Snape's tale again) to refresh my memory.

This one is for The Fashionista who requested Harry Potter nails with the Deathly Hallows symbol or the Slytherin Snake.  Naturally, I did both.  I only have white nail art polish that comes with a thin brush, so I did my best.  I hope you like them, or take away something from them at least. ^^;; I'm not satisfied with these, but I promised to have them up by the 13th so here they are.

This is an example of too many ideas, too little time.  Instead of doing a full mani, I pretty much did an idea per nail, or you can think of it as a showcase of 3 difference accent nails.  So pick and choose?  Or mix and match?  The pinky was just...uninspired.

Index:  Death Hallows symbol.  I used black for the base and added the Icing polish I'm holding called Starlight for holographic "shimmer."  (I'll talk about this one in a later post.)  Then I drew a triangle and a line through the middle, and curves for the circle last.  Another coat of Starlight turned it blue.  I was thinking about the story of the three brothers and how they met Death at twilight, which is why I did the night sky look.

Middle: Slytherin Snake.  I added a tongue and eyes to make it look snake like.  I googled the movie's version of the Slytherin crest and I think it looked something like this...roughly.  Black base and silver swirls.  Then I drew in the Snake with Zoya Ivanka.

Ring:  This was supposed to be like a Slytherin Snake/ Nigini (Voldemort's snake) themed.  It's a bad snake skin french.  I first did a silver french over a black base.  Then I drew checker marks to make the diamond like snake skin print.  Next I filled it in with different shades of green.  If I were to do this again, I'd go over the check print again with white to make the diamond print sharper.  If a french is intimidates you like it does me, then another idea is to make it wave across your nail tips to give the illusion that the snake is stretched across your nails.

Pinky: ...uninspired. ^^::

Thumb?  I didn't do one, but if I did I'd probably do a silver lightning bolt with H and P on either side. ^^

Mehhh not happy with these.  Maybe I'll give it another go tomorrow!

  6. I really like the ring! I believe this could also be transformed into a snake head/mouth, eating up your nail! :D Adding an eye on the snake print and curving a bit more the edge, would do it :D What do you think? ;)

    And oh, I've tagged you with the Butterfly Award on my blog! ;) HUGS!!!
