Revlon Whimsical

This one caused quite a stir last year because of its likeness to Deborah Lippmann's Glitter In The Air.  Whimsical has a sheer, pale blue base with medium blue and pink glitter, as well as fine iridescent green glitter.  I've tried this over various light blue bases, but I never liked how it looked.  So I tried 3 coats of Whimsical over 1 coat of OPI Don't Touch My Tutu!  This gets it pretty close to the bottle look.  But the weird thing is...mine looks a little green?  Not sure if this is how it is or if something funky happened to mine.

Have you tried this polish?  What would you recommend as a good layering base?

Revlon Girly

I picked this up a few weeks ago and have been loving it since!  I enlarged the bottle pic, because I think it really shows off all the different colored glitters.  Isn't it pretty?

Revlon Carbonite

Carbonite is a grey-silver metallic with subtle gold shimmer flecks that give it a bit of warmth.  It has a tarnished quality to it that I love.  There was a lot of talk about this color because of its likeness to Chanel Graphite.  From the comparison shots I've seen, Graphite has a bit more sparkle and warmth, but I'm content enough with Carbonite not to splurge on the Chanel.

What are your thoughts on Carbonite?  Are you a fan of drugstore dupes?

Popular Starry Pink

Introducing Revlon Popular, formerly known as Starry Pink.  Popular is a sheer, pale pink polish with fine and medium silver glitter.  The glitters submerged in the milky base tend to be white or grey, depending on how much polish is covering it.  I'm wearing 4 coats here for pictures, but 3 will do.  The formula is on the thick side and can dry a little slowly.  I had some trouble with balding and dragging, but adequate dry time between coats should eliminate that issue.

I like this polish, but I don't love it.  Don't get me wrong, it's pretty.  But maybe I was expecting something more from all the gushing reviews I've read.  It's quite flattering though, so I think it'll grow on me. ^^

Spring Florals & Pearls

I've been testing out the pearls, rhinestones, and filmos I ordered lately.  I wanted to check the quality and durability of them before I did my review.  I've given most of them a try, so the collective review will be up soon. :)  In the meantime, here's a floral mani I did with some of the white pearls.

This is the first version I did with a pink accent finger, which I didn't love.  So I ended up redoing that finger, because I didn't feel it completed the mani.

Reswatch: Revlon Not So Blueberry

Theme Monday: (Polka Dots) Lanterns and Fans (Pic Heavy)

Hey all!  The ladies over at Polish-aholics Anonymous wanted to do theme manis on Mondays and post pics!  Today is our first theme Monday, and we all did polka dots.  It's still not too late to join in!  Here's what I did. :)

Okay, let's dissect this mani! :P 

NOTD: Essence Chacalaca & Mosaic Nail Art

Here's a quick review of Essence Chacalaca (how fun is that to say?).  Chacalaca is part of the limited edition Whoom Boom collection!  It's a lovely dark blurple creme that leans more towards purple in my opinion.  I had no problems with application.  This is 2 coats without top coat, because I forgot. >.<

Then because I was feeling artsy and had some spare time, I did these mosaic nails.  ^_^  The bubbles shown in the mani aren't from any of the polishes but my top coat.  I kind of glopped it on because I wanted to take pics of it before the sun completely set.  In the process I smeared the white polish on one nail too. :/  Don't the colors remind you of something?  Maybe...Zoya's Mod Mattes collection? :P  For the other colors, I used Revlon Tulip, Revlon Garden, and Essie Coat Azure.

What do you think?  Would you do these nails?  I personally liked it very much.  Probably because I spent a bit of time on it. :P  I think it's fun and bright.  Makes me want to go to a summer party. :)

Pink Wednesday: Revlon Tulip & Sparkle

Happy Pink Wednesday!  Are you wearing pink?

I thought about wearing China Glaze 108 Degress, but I figured a lot of people have done that for Pink Wednesday, so I decided to go with Revlon Tulip, 3 coats.

I got this in the mail today. :)  This was part of the tea party set I won in a giveaway from Body and Soul.  Thank you Mary!  Please go visit her site, if you haven't.  Her most recent post is about a great deal going on for a nice set of summery Julep polishes!  And here's a pic of the two sets I received.

From left to right: Waterfall, Sparkle, Garden /  Butterfly, Moss, Tulip

Tulip is a bright, almost magenta, pink creme.  My pictures make it look like it's a straight up hot pink, but it's not.  It's bright but darker with some blue in it.  I've noticed that others bloggers had a lot of trouble with application with this one.  I don't know if mine's a different batch, but I really didn't have as much trouble.  Since these are minis, the brush is a bit tiny, and since it dries a bit fast, it can get streaky as a result.  I noticed that with my second coat, so for the third one I made sure I loaded the brush and it went on nice and smooth.  Even if you load the brush with polish, it'll be fine since the brush is so small.  It'll actually help you cover the nail better.  I wanted to see what Sparkle looked like, so I layered a thin coat over Tulip.

Sparkle has a clear base with fine silver glitter and big holo glitter.  With one coat, I was only getting about 1 holo glitter per nail.  Instead of adding more Sparkle, I layered OPI Teenage Dream over it, because the glitter reminded me of it.

As you can see, the glitters in TD are smaller than those in Sparkle.  In the end, I think I prefer Tulip on its own. :P  I'm really not a pink girl, but I'm starting to really like pinks with a bit of blue/ berry tones.  It might be a phase though. :P  The "I really really want Cult Nails Devious Nature but can't get it yet" phase. ^^;

NOTD: Revlon Cloud

It's not that sunny yet, since it's morning.  I'm hoping it'll get a bit sunnier in the afternoon, because I want to swatch some more!  I won't be able to in the next two days because it's going to rain.  Boo.  Anyway on to today's post!

Revlon Cloud is a pastel cool-toned purple with blue undertones.  It doesn't look like the pics. :(  I tried to fix the color but I couldn't get it to match the color on my nail and my skin was turning magenta. :P  So you'll just have to go see this one for yourself in store.  The color in the bottle will be the color on the nail.  Maybe a tad bit lighter.  In the pics I'm wearing 4 coats, but I know for a fact that this is a two-coater.  I tried to apply it in thin coats and ended up with brush gouges in the polish, so it took 4 coats to fix it.  In the end, I pretty much fixed it with two thick coats.  So save yourself time, and just do two thick coats for lovely opaque creamy smooth color. :)  This one also delivers on the top speed claim.  It dries pretty quickly, so 2 thick coats shouldn't be a problem.  Overall, I'm super impressed!  Fast drying, non streaky, 2 coater pastel and not expensive?  Love!

Pink Wednesday: Pink Icing and Cupcakes!

Yay it's Wednesday, and on Wednesdays we wear pink!  I've been looking forward to this one because I missed the last one due to finals. :)  So without further ado, I present you... cupcake nails! :)

I'm so glad I raced out to take pics of this mani yesterday before the sun set, because there's no sun out today!  But that also means my cuticles were a bit dry, and there was still some residue from the blue BYS color change polish.  Eek!

For the cupcakes I used 2 coats of Warm Cocoa by Love & Beauty.  The pink icing is 3 coats of Revlon Sheer Cotton, which was one of the polishes I won from Steph's giveaway.  I'll review that later on in this post.  For the sprinkles, I used a coat of Milani Gems.  I finished off by using China Glaze Ahoy for the cherry and Milani White nail art polish for the stripes.  Ah I was so careful not to smear the white stripes while putting on Seche Vite top coat, but alas Ahoy wasn't dry yet and it smeared onto the icing.  I can't really tell in person though, and the cupcakes are super cute. :)

For the other nails I used 5 coats of Revlon Sheer Cotton, .  Sheer Cotton is sheer but not streaky in my opinion.  Which is good!  I think 3 coats is fine, but 4 would be ideal for full coverage if you have long nails.  Initially, I was going to do brown polka dots over Sheer Cotton on the other nails.  But since I didn't have time, I used 1 coat of Milani Gems instead.  Then I applied another coat of Sheer Cotton over it (this coat will be the fourth, so do only 3 in the beginning).  Does it remind you of anything?  Well it's not supposed to be anything like Deborah Lippman Glitter in the Air, but it was definitely inspired by that polish.  I also wanted to add a little bit of sparkle on top, so I added a coat of Wet n Wild Party of Five Glitters.  Next time, I think I'll use Party of Five instead of Gems, since I want the glitter to be more sparse and spread apart.

Revlon Not So Blueberry: a scented polish

Whew!  Today was a busy day.  I have a quick post for you!  This one is like a review/ teaser.
I applied this polish at night, snapped a few pics knowing it'd look much more amazing in sunlight.  So I called it a night and went to sleep.  Unfortunately, I woke up with bedsheet prints on them! >.<  So I only have once decent pic for you.  Also while I was staring at my nails, waiting to fall asleep, I noticed this polish has some amazing duo?chrome!  It's like a light blue, pink, purple duochrome-y goodness!  For the most part you can't see this (I'm hesitant to label this duochrome), but in the shade at a certain angle...*sigh*...just prepare to be amazed. ^^  So...here's the not so great but something pic.

The formula was okay, this is three thin coats.  I'm pretty sure you can do two thick coats.  It's a shiny foil finish and it smells like blueberries!  Well the artificial kinds used to scent markers.  It's actually kind of strong, and I'm sensitive to smell.  It wasn't too bad for me though, it mostly made me realize how often my hand comes close to my face.  I'll post more pics of this when I wear it again, and I'll try to get a pic of the "duochrome" as well.

Have you tried any of Revlon's line of scented polishes?  Which ones, and what'd you think?
